"I'm sorry, Sean. She was going to kill me if I didn't."

"And I'm gonna kill you if you don't get me a bird by sundown," Sean hissed, throwing Kayla against a tree. "Or else it'll be YOUR flesh I'm eating!"

I whimpered and slowly stood up. My shoulder was cut from a loose piece of bark, and it was bleeding. I sat and started to cry.

"Shut up," Sean snarled, and lashed his claws against Kayla's side. "Now go get me some bird. Unless you wanna serve yourself as a replacement."

My eyes widened and I quickly got up, and limped in cat form. My shoulder hurt like crazy. I tried to launch myself at a bird, but a shock of pain stopped me.

Elizabeth had given the bird to Snowball and saw Kayla trying to hunt. She padded over to her. "Miss, what happened?" she asked worridly.

I gulped and looked around. Sean was nowhere in sight. "Sean happened."

Elizabeth nodded. She licked some blood off of Kayla's pelt.

"Thank you." I told her.

Elizabeth nodded. She looked around. "What was Sean mad at you for?"

"I don't think I can tell you." I whispered.

Elizabeth nodded. "Alright. Well, I better go try and catch something else." she meowed. "By the way, there's a duck pond down in the town."

I swiped at a passing bird, but my paw clutched at air.

Elizabeth looked at the bird then jumped up and caught it.

I looked at her. "Nice catch."

Elizabeth dropped the bird at Kayla's feet. "you helped me, now I'll help you."

"Thank you."

Elizabeth smiled. "I better get home now, I don't want to worry Snowball."

"Tell Snowball 'hi' from me."

Elizabeth nodded. "Bye, Kayla," she meowed, then ran off back to Snowball.

I gulped and picked up the bird. Sean would be here any second now...

Sean stepped in beside Kayla. "you got the birdmeat. Good job," he smiled, and then jerked the bird away. He took a few bites, then stepped back. "You can have the rest." The rest was a few skimpy bites, some meat left on the bones.

I quietly nibbled on the tidbits.

Sean watched her. "Alright, I'm going to camp." he spun around, kicking up dust. "See ya later, Kayla."

I coughed on the dust as it flew in my face.
