Seralee was outside, communicating with a bird.

The bird left. She watched it fly away. She moved to a crab, talking in clicks and snaps with her tongue.

The crab told her that he had seen the bottoms of trees without the trunks or leaves.

I turned. "Tobias!"

"Uh...yeah, sure."

Tobias smiled. "Do you have somewhere in mind?"

"Not at the far end of the forest."

He nodded. "I know a great place. It's a huge grassy meadow."

"That would be nice."

Tobias led her to it. It was a sunny day, and the light filtered wonderfully down onto the grass.

"Wow."

Tobias smiled. "I remember this place well. I was born here."

"Really?"

He nodded. "In the space I was born there is always an abundance in mice."

She nodded.

Pinning back his ears, Tobias slid into the long yellow grass.
